Legalization and Translations
A Solicitor has the same powers as a Notary Public to witness and legalise documents such as a Power of Attorney.
Notary Publics have different roles from Solicitors or Advogados but unlike Solicitors whose duty is to their client, a Notary owes a duty to the transaction.
If a document such as a Power of attorney is to be used in Portugal or Spain or anywhereelse abroad it normally requires to be legalised.
Legalisation is undertaken at the Foreign and Commonwealth office under the terms of the Hague Convention or at the Embassy or Consular offices for each Country.
It is the signature of the Solicitor or Notary Public that is legalised.
The witnessing of such documents before a Notary public is often called Notarisaion
Please contact us if you need to sign or execute a document which is to be used abroad.
We have a normal and an express legalisation service and you do not need to use a Notary Public.
